Ravi’s 30 Day Jail Sentence
Wednesday May 23, 2012 - BY Stacey
A few day ago, the judge handed down the sentence for Dharun Ravi and for many who had been paying attention to the trial, the 30 day prison term was far too lenient. I certainly agree with that sentiment.
I think that Ravi, who videoed his roommate, Tyler Clementi, having a homosexual liason, should have gotten way more than 30 days in jail.
He’s guilty as hell of being the cause of Tyler jumping off the George Washington Bridge to his death, and even though his sentence is light, he will have to live with that for the rest of his life.
His 300 hours of community service and his fine of $10,000 will never bring Tyler Clementi back to his family and friends. These slight punishments cannot erase the incredible shame he experienced that led him to suicide.
I’m sorry but Ravi seems like a spoiled, smug, self-involved kid who should learn the hard way that embarrassing and bullying people who are different than you, won’t be tolerated.
Well at least he got a shred of prison time. And given how obsessed he was with homosexual sex, to the point where he violated someone’s privacy and then shamed him all over the internet, there’s a good chance that in prison he will get to experience some of it himself.
